[Music] My name is Jacqueline Yu and I have been a practicing estate planning attorney for the past 14 years my focus is on providing estate tax and business succession planning to individuals families and business owners with sophisticated and complex financial and family situations I also work with international clients who own assets in the united states as well as u.s citizens with assets abroad in terms of my education i went to ucla for college and also earned a master's degree in tax and business law there and my law degree is from notre dame after practicing with other firms for over a decade i founded my own law office in 2020 right here in beverly hills through my work i've had the chance to provide sophisticated estate and tax planning to some individuals and families who traditionally haven't received that level of attention a few of the matters that have been the most gratifying for me professionally we're helping first-generation business owners to transfer that business to their children helping women administer estates of their loved ones administering estates involving international law in singapore and the philippines and working on an asset protection plan for an LGBTQ couple being able to help clients with complex estate and tax matters especially for those historically underserved has given me the greatest professional satisfaction like many lawyers my first experience with the beverly hills bar was attending one of its continuing legal education programs i first attended beverly hills bar events to keep up with developments in estate planning but soon started to meet more people and make great connections and then that led to linda chung and andrea kushner to invite me to apply for a position with the executive committee of the trusted estate section it's been a fabulous experience with great people working with lawyers who are volunteering their time and having the opportunity to help shape how the section works including inviting new and engaging speakers to our programs my favorite legal quote comes from supreme court justice sonia sotomayor's book my beloved world and in talking about the process of expanding her scope of influence she writes something that has really stuck with me and her exact words were as you discover what strength you can draw from your community in this world from which it stands apart look outward as well as inward build bridges instead of walls that last part especially means a lot to me because it's what i try to do in my own small way when i help my clients and the surrounding community i too seek to build bridges instead of walls
